Richard has been involved all his working life with electronics, in particular radio engineering.

After serving an apprentiship with GPO Telephones in the late sixties, Richard started a long career with the BBC. Initially employed in Transmitter Department, maintaining and operating high power broadcast medium wave, short wave, VHF sound and VHF and UHF television transmitters, Richard gained considerable knowledge keeping the service operating in the UK and abroad in tropical climates. Richard was later employed in the BBC's Research and Development Department at the world famous Kingswood Warren facility in Surrey, England.

Richard was latterly employed as chief engineer in a precision oscillator facility, headend engineer in the cable tv industry and finally spent six years as a post development support engineer at a world renowned radio design and manufacturing company with a pedigree going back at least to the 1950s.
